This project is something we should have done years ago. I remember Just Kause telling me one day, "Man, we should remix some Nipsey shit. His voice is raw as hell!" I definitely agreed but it was something we never got around do doing before his untimely passing in 2019. Not too long after Nip's death, I came across the TMC Mixtape acapellas and started to listen to Nipsey's bars without music. His voice is the first thing that stands out. So raw. Raspy. Aggressive yet laid back and chill. Then his words begin to hit you. Slick bars jam packed with game. The man was saying something. The message resonates and will continue to. Becoming inspired, I decided to mess with one of the acapellas and try remixing it. One led to two. I kind of liked them so I showed SD. He instantly dug them and says, "I want in." Bet. I show Just Kause and he's about doing it too. We end up knocking out the mixtape in a few months with tweaks, mixing and mastering. We ended up sitting on this for about a year not really knowing what to do with it. Should we release it? How? We end up deciding to release it for a free download and share it with the world on Nipsey's birthday (8/15/20). The TMC BAYROOT REMIXES were done out of the utmost love and respect for what Nipsey Hussle stood for. All we want out of this is to share how he inspired us to bring a different take to his already unbelievable art. SD, Just Kause and myself hope that you all enjoy our work and jam out to it.
